5G and Cyber Security – The Risk & Rewards
PACT Property & Assets were delighted to support Harrison Clarke Rickerbys at their latest Three Counties Breakfast – Big Techie Brekkie
With a 5G testbed now in mainstream business media, the event considered how 5G will change our lives.
October 2019
At the most basic level, predictions are that 5G mobile networks, being rolled out this year, will result in a seismic increase in the number of connected devices, faster speeds with increased connectivity and exacerbate the threat of data attacks faced by all organisations.
Keynote speaker, Vin Wijeratne, drew on his experience of the challenges faced in running businesses with local and global customers, and the experience of what must be done to prevent and respond to a data attack.
Amongst his ’top tips’ he shared with the audience that we should plan ahead and capture the facts before we suffer an attack. Expect the unexpected.
Capture what is known ‘v’ what is suspected ‘v’ what is not known – then set a key stakeholder map to handle the attack.
Keynote speaker: Vin Wijertne, formerly of The Royal Mint, Orange and EE, is no stranger to risk. He reflects that, in appointing him as Chief Financial Officer, the 1,100-year -old Royal Mint told him they were, “in the business of making money, not making huge profits”. Nevertheless, recognising their need for change and the importance of his deeply commercial background built during 12 years spent at Orange, he helped double their turnover and quadruple operating profit, which left them stronger than when he arrived.
Panel members, following the presentation, included Damon Rands of WolfberryCS, Fiona Piercy, Worcestershire LEP’s Director of Local Industrial Strategy and Linda Smith, CEO of tech entrepreneurs’ launchpad Betaden.
